Business opportunities in Indonesia: A joint event of SEV, Enterprise Greece and the Athens Chamber of Commerce

Indonesia is now the largest economy in southeast Asia, and showing dynamic growth

Athens, 21 February 2019| Strengthening Greece’s commercial relations with Indonesia, especially in sectors like construction, food, drugs and ICT, was the focus of the recent Discover Indonesia event held Wednesday, 20 February, 2019, as part of ExportReady program of the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV).

The event was co-organized with Enterprise Greece and the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with the support of the Embassy of Indonesia in Greece. The event was opened by the Vice-Chairman of SEV, Konstantinos Bitsios, Enterprise Greece Board Member, George Zissimatos, and the Business Advisory Officer of the Athens Chamber of Commerce, Dimitris Demetriou.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Greece, Ferry Adamhar, and the Director of the B5 Directorate for Economic Relations with Central and South America, Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Konstantinos Oikonomidis, also addressed the audience.

Aditia Prasta, Director of the Indonesian Investment Promotion Organization and Ms. Sri Kumala Chandra, EU Outreach Manager of the EU-Indonesia Business Council, updated participants on the economic situation in the country and the business opportunities emerging for Greek businesses in Indonesia. Particular emphasis was on investment opportunities in Indonesia’s fast growing economy. Since exiting an economic and political crisis in 1998-99, Indonesia has seen steady economic growth. According to the speakers, Indonesia is expected to be the world’s fourth strongest economy by 2050.

Speaking at the event, SEV Vice-Chairman, Konstantinos Bitsios, thanked the Ambassador of Indonesia for his initiative in developing commercial relations between Greece and Indonesia. He noted that: “in November 2016, SEV and the Athens Chamber organized a business mission to Indonesia, in which 10 companies participated. Three of them, Vamvaki, Vioryl and Upstream made business deals in the period that followed the delegation. Indonesia is the largest economy in southeast Asia. Therefore, it is important to intensify bilateral trade relations and for Greek companies to explore new opportunities.”

As part of the event, three Greek companies, Vamvaki Ltd, Hellenic Cables S.A. and Upstream shared their experience of successfully doing business in Indonesia with the audience.
