MYTILINEOS collaborates with the Athens University of Economics and Business in supporting the 9th Youth Entrepreneurship Summer School program

Athens, Greece – 23 July 2018 – Innovation and entrepreneurship are two very important options that offer perspectives for a sustainable exit from the crisis, thus making the effort for their strengthening imperative for Greece.

MYTILINEOS acknowledges that innovation and entrepreneurship culture is largely a matter of education and that this culture can and must be shaped among young people. Towards this direction, by investing in the support of pioneering actions for the promotion of innovation and youth entrepreneurship, our company initiated its collaboration with the Athens University of Economics and Business, and in particular with the Department of Management Science and Technology to support the 9th Youth Entrepreneurship Summer School (YES program), which has become a well-established institution that attracts more and more students from all over Greece.

As part of this collaboration, MYTILINEOS offered a total of 15 scholarships to high school students of all classes, giving the opportunity to children of the company’s employees and to students from Attica and the rest of Greece who were interested in acquiring knowledge and skills on entrepreneurship issues to take part in this groundbreaking initiative.

The program is designed to be vibrant and interactive and to keep the students’ interest at high levels. Among other things, it includes courses offered by academic lecturers and speeches by invited businessmen, analysis and discussion of business case studies from Greece and abroad, participation in business games, group activities as well as the development of a business plan for a new business. Also, students had the opportunity to participate in three interesting and interactive visits to businesses, in groups of 4-5 people.

Overall, the program helped children to explore to a certain extent their potential as future executives or entrepreneurs and to understand more directly the prospects offered by this dynamically growing branch of the economy.

This initiative of MYTILINEOS is being implemented within the framework of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Annual Action Plan and is directly linked to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals for Quality Education (Goal 4) and Decent Work & Economic Growth (Goal 8).
