Energy & Green Transition

Energy is a matter of strategic importance for the smooth functioning of the national economy, directly affecting the productivity of industry as well as businesses across all sectors. Access to stable and predictable energy costs is a prerequisite for efficient operations and for maintaining a successful presence in both domestic and international markets. This depends on security of supply, as well as on the stability and competitiveness of energy prices. In Greece, high energy costs for businesses constitute a major obstacle to growth and a threat to competitiveness. At the same time, SEV recognizes the necessity of the Green Transition and stresses the need for a balanced approach, where decarbonization objectives go hand in hand with preserving competitiveness and avoiding the deindustrialization that threatens Europe as a whole.

  • Ensure competitive and predictable energy costs for industry and businesses
  • Leverage the European state aid framework to offset increased energy costs
  • Accelerate investments in energy network infrastructure, industrial electrification, and energy storage
  • Speed up the deployment of renewable energy sources and the achievement of energy and climate targets
  • Implement an effective energy price relief mechanism tailored to the needs of Greek industry
  • Revise the market design and regulated charges mechanism, while enhancing transparency in tariff structures
  • Strengthen energy autonomy and reduce industry’s exposure to energy market price fluctuations through technologies such as batteries, self-generation, and self-consumption of energy
  • Expand and upgrade domestic interconnections and electricity networks based on industrial needs, while accelerating licensing procedures
  • Reassess the Emissions Trading System (ETS) in 2026 to better reflect the challenges faced by industries, particularly energy-intensive sectors
  • Maintain free emission allowances for exports, or adopt other WTO-compatible solutions to prevent carbon leakage in sectors affected by CBAM

Energy Committee: The Committee develops policy proposals aimed at improving energy efficiency, ensuring competitive energy costs, modernizing the regulatory framework of the energy market, enhancing the quality of energy networks, supporting decarbonization, promoting investments in renewable energy sources, and advancing the green transition.
