British American Tobacco reinforces its presence in Greece and launches its innovative tobacco heating product

British American Tobacco, one of the world’s leading, multi-category consumer goods company, launches its flagship heating tobacco product, glo™, in Greece, making the country one of the first in the world to have the full range of British American Tobacco Group’s Next Generation Products. In total, this move signifies further commitment and investment to Greece with the creation of 250 new jobs by the end of 2019.

glo™ is an easy-to-use smoke-free device, which heats specially designed tobacco sticks, without burning. glo offers Greek adult smokers an experience similar to traditional smoking but with the potential for harm reduction, when compared to cigarettes. The vapour formed by heating the special tobacco sticks, generates a natural tobacco taste very similar to cigarette’s but contains around 90%-95% less toxicants than the smoke of cigarettes (in terms of the 9 harmful components the World Health Organization recommends reducing in cigarette smoke). The device is available in Greece through NOBACCO’s points of sales and the e-shop nobacco.gr, whereas the Neo™ Sticks that are used in the device will be available in other points of sales too all over Greece.

Aiming to become the leader in the category of Next Generation Products, British American Tobacco, has invested more than $2.5 billion over the last six years into the research and development of potentially less risky alternatives to smoking, such as tobacco heated products and vapour products. British American Tobacco Hellas plans to continue to contribute to the Greek economy in the next two years with €150 million of investment, through supporting retailers, Greek suppliers, Greek workforce and further developing the International Logistic Hub in Piraeus, which should continue to support the efforts for growth of the country. The launch of glo™ is included in this investment as immediately from launch 100 new employment positions are created, with further employment creation planned totaling around 250 new jobs by the end of 2019.

Juan José Marco, President and General Manager of British American Tobacco Hellas, mentioned: “Consistent with British American Tobacco Group’s goal to offer adult consumers alternatives to smoking, we are excited to welcome glo™ in Greece. Aspiring to be the leader in Next Generation Products and by investing significantly in this field, British American Tobacco proves in practice the company’s commitment to continue supporting the country during its recovery”.
